Being a top-notcher of a board examination is a great achievement. But making it first twice is an insanely extraordinary feat. The top-notcher of this year’s Physician Licensure Examination was 2011’s Nursing Board Exam Top 1, Jerald Pelayo.
Hailing from the University of the East Ramon Magsaysay Memorial Medical Center (UERMMMC), Jerald topped this year’s Physical Licensure Examination with an 88.17% rating. Only 1,067 out of 1,601 takers passed the aforementioned national exam.
In his interview with CNN Philippines, the top-notcher was grateful to God for his success:
“God was very faithful and he allowed me to top the exam. For that I am so thankful, sobra.”
Being a licensed doctor was not his initial goal in life. As a devout follower of God, he wanted to be a missionary. He revealed that his willingness to serve people drove him to reach this goal:
“Siguro po yung inspiration ko talaga is yung service to the people and especially yung hindi nari-reach ng ating government.”
His plans after his extraordinary feat is to specialize in internal medicine and is hopeful for his medical training in the United States.
7 years ago, the Nursing graduate from Mountain View College in Valencia, Bukidnon placed first among the 67,095 who took the Nursing Board Exams. He said:
“I’m still in utter disbelief. I still have to keep reminding myself that it is not a dream.”
Congratulations and may you have continued success, Jerald!
