In life, we sometimes meet people not by chance but with a purpose – to serve as a life-altering encounter. During the times when it seems hopeless, we are reminded of these small moments between regular people and we know that there still good in the world. Such was the case between Casey Fisher and a homeless man.
On the way to a Dunkin’ Donuts, Casey passed by a homeless man who was wandering the streets picking up change. She saw the man again at the donut shop. He was able to make a dollar out of the coins he collected in the street.
Seeing the homeless man’s struggle, Casey thoughtfully offered to buy him a bagel with a cup of coffee. Then, they sat together.
The man was shocked by her unexpected invitation. He accepted the woman’s gesture and sat with her. Casey learned what had happened to the man’s throughout his life and why he had become homeless.
His name was Chris. Chris was swallowed up by drugs and he lost his mother to cancer.
After Chris’ mom succumbed to illness, he recalls that he wanted to pursue his dreams to honor her name.
An hour later, the conversation had to end when Casey realized that she had to go to school. Before the two parted ways, Chris handed her a crumpled note, then apologized for his handwriting.
On her way to school, Casey stopped to read the handwritten note. She was taken aback by the words.
“I wanted to kill myself today. Because of u you I now do not. Thank u, beautiful person.”
Casey smiled after reading Chris’ grateful words.
Casey thought that her experience was worth sharing. She took a photo of the note and shared her story on Instagram, generating a lot of positive feedback from netizens.
