Maxxy Santiago of the ABS-CBN Middle East Bureau broke the news about a Filipina living in Kuwait getting hit and run in Salmiya. She identified the Filipina as a certain Vergie Gayas Gabales and narrated how she was run over while crossing the Al Mugheara Street in Salmiya.
Fortunately, Gabales survived the incident and is now receiving medical treatment at the Mubarak Al Kabeer Hospital emergency room. She is now well enough and was already able to tell Santiago to let her family and friends know she’s doing just fine.
Still, the journo solicited prayers for the Filipina’s speedy recovery.
The journalist took a photo of an unconscious Gabales laying on her hospital bed. It is quite revealing of how the accident wasn’t really that minor.
It seems, however, that the area where Gabales got hit and run is really a hotspot for mobile accidents. Another Filipina netizen shared Santiago’s post about Gabales and said:
“Dami nasasagasaan sa Al Mughera, sa kabilang kanto lang namin yan. Cno pa naka kakilala kay Virgie Gayas Gabales”
A year ago, another netizen posted photographs of an accident in the same street in Salmiya. His photos reveal that hordes of cars pass by Al Mughera, which is actually part of a four-way intersection.
We are hoping Maxxy Santiago could give us further updates about the situation of our fellow Filipina (it wasn’t clear if Gabales is an OFW or a migrant in Kuwait), but for now, we could all pray for her recovery, as well as the safety of all our kababayans anywhere in the world.
One netizen’s prayer comment on Maxxy’s post says it all:
