The act of letting go isn’t only something that’s dreaded by bitter lovers but also protective parents. It’s not easy to watch your babies grow up to become young teens and it gets harder once you have to treat them as such. Actress Nikki Valdez was quite emotional when she allowed her nine-year-old daughter Olivia to go to a party unchaperoned.
The “Sana Dalawa Ang Puso Ko” star went to Instagram to mark the memorable milestone that she and her daughter went through. Of course, making the decision wasn’t a walk in the park for Nikki since she has fears shared by any anxious mother.
A part of her caption read:
“Was I ready for this? NO. Is it a bit too early? MAYBE.“
But what made her push through this unsupervised outing is because she’s confident that her daughter is responsible. Nikki feels that she has taught Olivia the right lessons and just like a school test, it’s time to see if the nine-year-old can be a good girl on her own.
“I wanted her to experience having fun and being responsible at the same time; knowing what and what not to do without the echo of my voice following her around.”
One thing that truly made her emotional was the fact that her daughter was wearing a dress. Perhaps Olivia has never worn one in public or in gatherings but the image of her child on her way to her individualistic teen years was overwhelming for Nikki. Nonetheless, we were inspired to see how confident and trusting the actress was with her kid. We hope that more parents can develop such a great relationship with their children like this.
