Chinese family gets reunited with their long-lost daughter after 24 years

After 24 long years of looking for their long-lost daughter, a Chinese couple welcomed her back in their arms once again in a family reunion that has touched the hearts of people around the world.

January 8, 1994 was just another day for roadside fruit vendors and couple Liu Dengying and Wang Mingqing – selling their wares at their hometown, Chengdu, China. Because there was no one to take care of Qifeng, their three-year-old daughter, the couple decided to take her with them to their stall. It was a busy and hectic day – Wang needed some change for a customer, but he didn’t have any. He then decided to go to a neighboring stall to ask for some. This was when the unthinkable happened.

When Wang returned, his little girl was nowhere to be found. For the devastated couple, this was the beginning of a 24-year-long agonizing search for their child.

Whereas most couples would have given up looking for their daughter after a few years, Wang and Liu never gave up. They decided to stay in Chengdu in the hopes that their daughter might find her way home. They also had a forensic artist sketch how Qifeng might look like now based on her younger sibling’s photo. In addition to these, Wang signed up as a driver with the Chinese ride-hailing company Didi Chuxing in 2015 in an effort to widen his search.

Every day, Wang would hand out leaflets and business cards to his passengers, hoping one of them could provide him with information to where his daughter might be. He also put up a large sign on his rear window in case his daughter sees it.

One fateful day, a woman named Kang Ying came across the forensic sketch that Wang and his wife posted online. She was shocked by how much the woman in the photo looked like her. Kang always knew she was adopted, but she never thought too much of it. All she knows is that she was found on the side of a road in Chengdu when she was still little, probably abandoned.

After a DNA test, it was confirmed that Kang Ying was indeed Qifeng, the missing daughter of Wang and Liu!
