According to Lad Bible, a man who still refuses to be named parked his beloved Volkswagen Passat in the garage of a building in Frankfurt, Germany in 1997. However, upon going back to the parking area to get his car, he couldn’t find his vehicle anymore.
After searching for days, the man finally gave up. This prompted him to report it stolen to the local authorities, and the police initiated a search operation for it. Unfortunately, his vehicle was never found.
That is, until 20 years later — and you’ll never guess where it was discovered.
In November of 2017, the authorities finally found the German man’s Passat – back where the elderly man parked it. That’s right, it seems like the car was never stolen or lost in the first place.
As it turns out, the building where the vehicle was discovered in was scheduled to be demolished. That’s when the contractors saw a car which was hindering the demolition, but no one knew who the owner was. They then decided to report it to the local authorities, who eventually traced the Passat back to its owner.
According to the German paper Augsburger Allgemein, the car’s owner was an elderly gentleman who was 76 years old . Accompanied by his daughter, the owner went to pick up his long lost car. However, his Volkswagen wasn’t working anymore. In fact, it won’t even start.
“The car can no longer be driven and will be sent to the scrap heap,” the Frankfurt authorities said.
On the brighter side, at least the German man can now sleep knowing that no one stole his car after all.
