In Pampanga, a graduating student identified as Kenneth Masa Ramos reportedly took his own life after he was prevented by his state university from graduating.
According to the graduating student’s mother, Yolanda Masa, her son succumbed to depression after he was allegedly not permitted by Don Honorio Ventura Technological State University (DHVTSU) — the state university he was enrolled in — to go up on stage for the graduation ceremony due to his incomplete grades.
The grieving mother disclosed that her son drank poison which led to his tragic demise. He was rushed to the hospital where he was pronounced dead on arrival.
The report added that the deceased’s mother went home from Saudi Arabia to witness her son graduate. She shared with CLTV36:
Relatives of the deceased denied that the graduating student still had a minor subject left on his docket and stated that the registrar should have checked his records thoroughly.
Kenneth’s sister, Joe Laine Reyes, tearfully shared:
The grieving mother also expressed her confusion, saying that the school shouldn’t have included her son’s name on the list of graduating students if he was not a candidate. The deceased’s family hopes to discuss the matter with the school’s administration.
The institution, however, claimed that they have yet to be notified about the tragic incident. The state university’s president said:
The Commission on Higher Education in Region III have stated that they will investigate this matter.
