A Person With Disabilities (PWD) lives a hard life, much harder than any able-bodied person can fathom. However, it is this hard life that forces them to find true strength, the kind of strength that can be found deep within the human spirit. This story of a PWD beauty queen will no doubt inspire you.
Ella Mae Layar may be a beauty queen, but she is not your ordinary pageant winner. The story of the recently-crowned “Queen of Beauty on Wheels” has inspired netizens all over the country, but not because she wears her crown from a wheelchair. Rather, it is her unparalleled resilience and optimism that has touched the hearts of many.
In a Facebook post by Ella herself, the PWD beauty queen shared how she was born with polio. She said that she always wanted to be a majorette or a model when she was kid, occasionally dreaming of joining beauty pageants like any other girl her age. However, Ella knew that achieving her dreams was next to impossible because of her condition.
That is, until she joined the “Queen of Beauty on Wheels.”
Ella said she never knew one of her dreams could come true, but now it has. She thanked her family and friends who have been with her since day one, supporting her with everything she ever wanted to do. She also thanked her boyfriend for being with her every step of the way, always ready to cheer her on.
The reigning Queen of Beauty on Wheels ended her post with a message of hope for everyone:
“Sa mga katulad ko po dyan, wag mainggit sa iba, tanggapin kung ano ka at magtiwala sa plano niya. May plano sa atin si God kaya tayo ganito. Ngiti naman diyan!“
In her post script, Ella also reminded everyone that having a disability should never stop anyone from pursuing his or her dreams.
