A netizen proudly took to Facebook to announce that after 13 years of selling sponges on the street, he is finally graduating from college!
In a now-viral post, Melvin Chua shared how he has been selling the said cleaning implements since he was in grade school. He said he did it to help his family with their expenses and to send himself to school.
Now, 13 years later, this sponge vendor is about to earn his diploma with a degree in Office Management from the University of Makati.
After his graduation practice, Melvin said he immediately went to his usual spot to sell sponges, hoping to see his frequent buyers so he could thank them.
Luckily, he saw some of them again. He thanked them for helping his livelihood and for helping him finish his studies. According to him, these were the people who took care of him since he was a kid, giving him food and worrying about him whenever he would stay out too late or continue selling in the rain.
The emotional sponge vendor wrote:
“And as I end this remarkable journey, ito yung araw na hinding hindi ko kayo malilimutang pasalamatan. From the bottom of my heart. SOBRANG MARAMING SALAMAT PO. Dahil sa pagbili nyo ng paninda ko, isang araw, isang linggo, isang buwan at isang taon ang nadadagdag para mapagpatuloy ko ang pag aaral ko at matulungan ko ang pamilya ko.”
